I’m Carl Sorensen,
Scuba Diver of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
~ Scuba Diving was always on my bucket list since I was a little kid, but time, money, kids and a business all kept me from realizing the dream. Right before Covid, I turned 40 and thought that I should really try scuba diving and cross it off my list. So I signed up to get certified.
~ I bought a GoPro right after getting certified and started playing around with it for a year or so, but could never really capture the underwater world like I was actually seeing it. So I new I needed to step up my game. I upgraded to a Sony A7Siii in an Aquatica Digital housing using either an 8” acrylic or 9.25” glass dome and mostly wide angle lenses including a Sony 16-35 and an Iaowa 10mm. I also sometimes shoot macro with a 90mm lens.
~ I love that you can get so close to everything. Nature and beautiful scenes just unfold right in front of you. Most of the creatures are not bothered by our presence, unlike on land where pretty much everything is scared of by us. Underwater, it’s much different. I find creatures are often actually curious about us.
~ My favorite ocean life would be the octopus. They are just such an amazing creatures and I really enjoy filming them when they are out in the open doing octopus things.
~ Scuba diving and underwater videography has absolutely changed my life. It’s given me a new perspective for nature. It’s a physical and mental challenge and it’s introduced me to a community of really awesome and like minded people.
